Harris Jeyaraj and Me :)

Oh happy memories are occupying my mind when i write this post and for everyone when they think of their COLLEGE DAYS.

When i step in to my college(Manakula Vinayagar Engg College, Pondicherry) i found there was no culturals or no college band. The college management had no idea on culturals and more over had a great opinion that its waste of time. Since i was admired already by Pecofes and Spandan i wished my college should have one. But at first i need a Band..i was completely lost till i met my friend Ravi who is not a great drummer but had once sat on the drums. Our common dreams made us friends and we jointly took care on the arrangements of anything related to the band. We then joined with my Friends Anto , Manikandan(My Business partner too) , Jerin George and others... and formed a band which literally bit the dust on Pecofes 2000 ....Well therereafter the scene changed, we sincerely started practicing(learnt)and formed a better band. After many struggle the management agreed for the culturals and even sponsored for us for our inter college participation. We are happy that we initiated the culturals in our college which is still happening. Later we won the third place in Pecodes 01...that was great boost to us...

Late 2002 , it was the time our "untitled" college band was in a full throttle. We selected tough, challenging songs the following year and performed well and won the first Prize in all the competitions we competed...... Some of them are Pecofes,Karaikal Eng College Culturals, Spandan, Chengalpet Medical College etc..

The above photo was taken in 2002 when harris jeyaraj had just completed Minnalae. We participated in Prism 2k2, an inter college competition organized by my friend Vivek. The show was inaugurated bu Nataka (Studio desinger and guitarist of rahman)
Harris Jeyaraj presided over the function and handed over the first prize to our BAND.

My Musical experience(Scoring) in Shakepeare's Tempest

Dr. Velu saravanan (below) and Dr. Siva Ilango

Dr.Velu Saravanan an international Comedy theatre artist(better known as Velu mama in Makkal TV) who resides in Pondicherry decided to play the tamil version of William Shakespeare's final Drama - The Tempest(Suravali in tamil). Dr. Indra Parthasarathi did the tamil translation. Velu Saravanan directed the show and casted as Maruti (Ariel, an airy spiritand), Dr.Siva Ilango(My uncle) as Mandhiravathi (Prospero, the Right Duke of Milanand), Visagan as Karuppan (Caliban, a savage and deformed slave), Kovalan(My cousin) as Arakan and many more



The show took place in Bharat Nivas Auditorium, Auroville on March 21st 2010.

I had computer setup below the stage and did the scoring using Sonicsynth vst.
I already sequenced some of the scenes and played above them in the show.

Rahman joins the list of Grammy winners from India

Rahman joins other Indian music greats like Pandit Ravi Shankar (3 times), Zakir Jussain (twice), Vikku Vinayak and Vishvamohan Bhatt who have won a Grammy in the past.




Rahman won in the category of 'Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media' for Slumdog Millionaire and 'Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual medium' for "Jai Ho".

"This is insane, God is great again," an elated Rahman said while accepting the golden gramophones at the Staples Centre here, his first Grammy win.

The composer shared the award for "Jai ho" with lyricist Gulzar and Tanvi Shah, who penned the Spanish words of the international hit.

"I never dreamt about winning all these awards," the 44-year-old said, adding, "All my well wishers from the world who keep me going,... Jaiho India...!"
